2009 for Dodge’s Challenger
Industry reports indicate that Chrysler is planning on a sport coupe variant based on the next generation LX platform. The sport coupe is seen as a competitor to the Mustang. The new Mustang has turned around how the coupe market is viewed by manufacturers, and it has exceeded all sales expectations. Of course, when something is successful it brings additional competition. You can expect that GM may also bring a competitor in that time frame. Ford is expecting to build over 190,000 Mustangs, and Chrysler would hope to sell 60-70k. If they can sell 60,000 at an average price of $25,000, that would mean over $1.5 billion in sales. Not too shabby.
